Air Force Institute of Technology

 Air Force Institute of Technology, formerly known as the Air Force Aviation Technology School (AFATS), underwent a transformation to meet the development of defense technology and the changes in national vocational education in 2001. Approved by the Ministry of Education and in accordance with the Ministry of Education's official letter No. 90168792 dated November 29th, 2001, it was agreed to restructure as a technical college with an attached junior college department. Subsequently, various tasks such as organizational adjustments, regulatory revisions, faculty planning, curriculum design, and enrollment promotion were carried out. On August 1st, 2002, it officially commenced operation and was renamed as the "Air Force Institute of Technology." This institution is responsible for educating officers from two-year technical college and NCOs from junior college in fields such as aviation mechanics, civil engineering, technical supplies, communication electronics, air traffic control, and atmospheric measurement. It is the only technical college in the R.O.C. armed forces dedicated to training aviation professionals.


The Brief History of the Air Force Aviation Technology School

 Originally established as the Air Force Mechanical School and the Air Force Communication Electronics School, in compliance with the military force restructuring policy, they were merged into the "Air Force Aviation Technology School" on August 1st, 1996. Situated in Gangshan Town, Kaohsiung County, the original location of the "Communication Electronics School" became the 1st campus where educational administrative staff were stationed, and the original location of the "Mechanical School" became the second campus.


The Brief History of the Air Force Mechanical School

 In October 1933, the government established the Preparatory Committee for the "Aviation Mechanical School" to cultivate aviation mechanical personnel. On March 16, 1936, the school was founded in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. Due to the war against Japan in August 1937, it relocated to Chengdu, Sichuan Province. On November 1, 1938, it was reorganized as the "Air Force Mechanical School." In 1949, it moved to Gangshan, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.


The Brief History of the Air Force Communication Electronics School

 In the spring of 1937, due to a shortage of air force communication personnel, the government established a communication personnel training class affiliated with the Hangzhou Jianqiao Central Aviation School. In February 1941, it was relocated to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and renamed as the "Air Force Communication Personnel Training Class." On January 1, 1944, it was formally established as the "Air Force Communication School." In 1949, it moved to Gangshan, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. With advancements in Air Force communication electronic equipment, the field of communication electronics education expanded rapidly. In 1957, it was renamed as the "Air Force Communication Electronics School."


Campus

 The school is located in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung City. The original location of the "Communication Electronics School" serves as the first campus (Jieshou Campus), where the educational administrative staff is stationed. The original location of the "Mechanical School" serves as the second campus (Julun Campus).


Academic departments

 The school's two-year technical college consists of four departments: Aircraft Engineering, Communication Electronics, Military Meteorology, and Management. The junior college offers seven departments: Aerospace Engineering, Communication Electronics, Aviation Electronics, Meteorological Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Logistics Management, and Applied Foreign Languages (established in 2019 in response to the 2030 National Bilingual Policy of the R.O.C. Executive Yuan).
